Wildlife
The Northern Tuli Game Reserve is a true haven for wildlife, which together with the stunning scenery, fascinating history and relaxing lodge grounds makes Tuli unique.
Each day brings a new adventure as Tuli offers a truly authentic wildlife experience, whether you have opted for a game drive or bush walk with our exceptional guides or chosen to spend some time in one of our hides tucked away in the bush (where you can also stay overnight for the ultimate back-to-nature experience!).
Bush walks give a real opportunity to experience Africa at ground level, taking in the sounds and smells of the bush as well as the sights. The slower pace also enables your guide to explain fascinating facts such as the traditional medicinal use of plants or the inner workings of a termite mound and to relate folk tales about the different birds and animals you come across.
There are 48 large
mammal species present in the reserve, totaling approximately twenty thousand
animals, which include elephant, fifteen large herbivore species and four cat
species to mention but a few.
Mammals in the reserve include: aardvark (including a resident in the lodge grounds), aardwolf, chacma baboon, bushbaby (greater, lesser & thick-tailed), bushbuck, bushpig, caracal, black-footed cat, cheetah, civet, dassie (rock & yellow-spotted), common duiker, eland, elephant, elephant shrew, bat-eared and cape fox, genet (large and small spotted), giraffe, scrub and spring hare, hippopotamus, impala, black-backed jackal, klipspringer, kudu, leopard, lion, mongoose (banded, selous, slender & white-tailed), vervet monkey, cape clawless otter, pangolin, striped polecat, Jameson's rock rabbit, serval, tree squirrel, steenbok, warthog, waterbuck, African wild cat, blue wildebeest, Burchell's zebra, hyaena (brown & spotted), honeybadger. and 90 different birds were counted in the gardens by keen birders in just one
morning. 350 different bird species have been identified in the area and Tuli Safari Lodge is an active member of Birdlife Botswana. For more information about birding at Tuli please click here.
